    Feature Comparison – MAASS vs Monitor

    MAASS “MB”
    1. Flat Cap, Welded Plate, Epoxy Painted
      Flat Cap design will not shed water and snow. Accelerated corrosion may occur. Snow buildup can plug the cap’s vent. A well that is not properly vented will create a vacuum during pump operation, potentially drawing in contaminates.
    2. Optional: Locking Bolts
      Unauthorized well access is not prevented. Locking Bolts can be purchased for additional expense.
    3. Optional: Airline Test Block
      Air Line Test Block is Mandatory in some states. Unable to accurately measure well capacity without the Airline Test Block. Can be purchased for additional expense.
    4. Stainless Steel O-Ring & Spool Seat Welded to Discharge Body ID
      Dissimilar metals can accelerate the rate of corrosion. Stainless Steel (more noble / Cathode) can accelerate the corrosion rate of Steel (less noble / Anode) due to the electrical difference of the materials. This type of corrosion is known as “Galvanic Corrosion”.
    5. Plated Steel Hardware for Well Cap
      Plated Steel fasteners are standard. Stainless Steel Fasteners are available for additional expense. Stainless Steel Fasteners are prone to Thread Galling*, making it difficult to assemble and disassemble during installation and well pump maintenance. If galling occurs, fasteners can snap and break, requiring replacements.
    6. Optional: Torque Arrestor & Lift-Out Bail
      Torque Arrestor is fabricated from multiple pieces. Not a solid cast component. Lift-Out Bail is a NPT pipe coupling. Contractor must provide threaded connection from Crane to Lift-Out Bail on all sizes.
    7. Spool Pressure Zone Tapping(s) Not Provided
      Pressure zone tappings not provided for Pressure Transducer or Water Sampler Valve. Water Sampler Valve is Mandatory in some states.
    8. Spool and Discharge Body Epoxy Painted
      Paint is not impervious to moisture. The paint is often scratched or damaged during handling and installation, exposing the base metal. Once the coating is compromised, the base metal will corrode. Paint does not provide Cathodic Protection, as does Zinc.

    9. Discharge Body NOT provided with “Ribs” or “Reinforcement Rings”
      Discharge Body Design may not prevent Buckling. Buckling can occur from ground settling, causing vertical movement of the discharge piping. If Buckling occurs, the spool will be lodged within the discharge body, preventing well pump maintenance from ground level. Extensive labor and excavating will be required to facilitate any well pump maintenance.
    Monitor “Pitless”
    1. Domed Cap to Shed Water and Snow
      Domed Cap design prevents snow buildup, maintaining a properly vented well. E-Coat primer provides superior corrosion protection. The paint is electrically charged to the casting, providing continuous coverage. A top coat is applied over the E-Coat, providing additional corrosion protection.
    2. Standard: Locking Bolts
      All       Industrial Pitless Units are provided with Locking Bolts. Locking Bolts prevent unauthorized well access. A Monitor Protective Well Enclosure is available for added security.
    3. Standard: Depth Test Block
      All       Industrial Pitless Units are provided with the Depth Test Block. The Depth Test Block provides (3) 1/4″ NPT tappings to accommodate accessories. The Depth Test Block ensures accurate well capacity measurements.
    4. O-Ring and Spool Seat are Solid Cast Iron or Steel
      Discharge Body Design eliminates welded O-Ring & Spool Seat. Steel and Iron are listed under the same metallurgical category on the Galvanic Corrosion Chart. The Spool and Discharge Body are Hot Dip Galvanized with Lead Free Zinc. Zinc (less noble / Anode) is more electronegative than Steel & Iron (more noble / Cathode), providing sacrificial protection for the base metal.
    5. Moly Lube Coated Stainless Steel Hardware for Well Cap
      Nuts are Moly Lube Coated to prevent Thread Galling*. Thread Galling is common when Stainless Steel hardware is not Moly Lube Coated. Moly Lube coated Stainless Steel is a superior fastener.
    6. Standard: Spider Torque Arrestor or Hold Down Hooks
      6″- 8″ = Spider Torque Arrestor – Solid Cast Iron Component – Threaded Connection 10″ and Larger = Hold Down Hooks – Welded to Lift-Out Pipe Hold Down Hooks create superior support / structure to prevent rotation during motor start-up and for higher pressure artesian well applications.
    7. Spool Supplied With TWO Pressure Zone Tappings
      Two pressure zone tappings provided into the submersible pump pressure zone. Tappings accommodate a Water Sampler Valve and Pressure Transducer.
    8. Spool and Discharge Body are Hot Dip Galvanized (Lead Free Zinc)
      Zinc, the sacrificial material, will continue to provide corrosion protection even when the base Steel / Iron is exposed from a scratch or abrasion. The surrounding Zinc is slowly consumed, protecting the base metal at all times.
      * Zinc provides an Impervious Barrier and Cathodic Protection *
    9. Discharge Body has “Ribs” or “Reinforcement Rings”
      The “Standard” Pitless Discharge Body is Solid Cast Iron. The “Standard” design incorporates Continuously Cast Vertical “Ribs” to prevent Buckling. The “Custom” Pitless Discharge Body is Fabricated from Steel. The “Custom” design incorporates lateral Reinforcement Rings welded to the Discharge Body OD to prevent Buckling. Both designs provide superior support against Buckling.

    * Thread Galling is common when the stainless steel surfaces of male and female threads are placed under pressure, during assembly or disassembly. The friction and stress breaks down the self-generated oxide film, causing the two parts to seize (gall). This type of galling is often referred to as “COLD WELDING”.

    The MONITOR “PITLESS” Unit provides many “Standard” features; whereas the MAASS “MB” Unit offers them as accessories or options only. The COMPLETE MONITOR “PITLESS” Unit is 3rd Party Certified by NSF to NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 Standards. Only the paint that is used on the MAASS “MB” is certified to NSF 61 Standards. This is NOT an equivalent certification. Please visit NSF’s website.

    The Monitor Pitless is the Superior Spool Type Pitless.
